FAQ — Brass Bar

Common engineering questions on brass bar: grades, standards, machining and supply.

Free-cutting brass C36000, forging brass C38500 and yellow/cartridge brasses C27000/C27200/C28000 are the common UNS grades supplied as bar. C36000 is the machinability benchmark (rated 100).
Free-cutting brass rod, bar and shapes follow ASTM B16; forging brass follows ASTM B455; general brass bar also references ASTM B124. Verify the spec against the section shape required.
Brass bar is supplied round, hex, square or flat in extruded or drawn form. C36000 machines at high speed with short chips; C38500 is optimized for hot forging rather than high-speed machining.
Nuts, bolts, valve bodies, gear blanks, fittings, connectors and decorative hardware. C36000 dominates turned parts; C38500 is used for forged plumbing and hardware components.
Linsy Copper supplies brass bar against ASTM specs with per-order MTR/MTC, SGS on request, RoHS/REACH compliance, low-MOQ custom runs and a 10–60 day lead time, with quote response within 1 hour.
