Product Overview

C24000 brass is a high-copper brass alloy containing approximately 80% copper and 20% zinc, providing an excellent balance of strength, formability, and corrosion resistance. It is manufactured to ASTM B36, ASTM B134, and related standards for applications requiring reliable fabrication performance and attractive appearance.

Produced through rolling, drawing, and annealing processes, C24000 brass offers outstanding ductility and excellent cold working characteristics for deep drawing, stamping, and forming operations. Its high copper content contributes to a distinctive reddish-gold appearance while maintaining improved strength compared to red brass alloys.

C24000 brass is extensively used in decorative hardware, architectural trim, electrical components, radiator parts, and industrial stamped products where appearance and formability are important. It is widely applied across construction, electronics, transportation, HVAC, and general manufacturing industries.

Frequently Asked Questions — C24000 Low Brass

Practical FAQ for engineers and buyers specifying C24000 low brass (80/20 brass, UNS CuZn20 / CW503L).

C24000, commonly called low brass or 80/20 brass, contains 79–81% copper with zinc as the balance and lead capped at 0.05% (low-lead). It is governed by ASTM B36/B36M (sheet, strip, rolled bar) and ASTM B134 (wire), with EN equivalents CuZn20 / CW503L and GB H80. It is a wrought alloy, not a casting grade.
In the annealed state tensile strength is about 180–230 MPa with elongation of 45–60%; cold-worked tempers rise to roughly 250–390 MPa (H02–H04). Electrical conductivity is approximately 22–33% IACS (annealed) and density is about 8.67 g/cm³. The alloy is non-magnetic.
Its higher zinc content versus red brass gives excellent cold formability, a high fatigue limit, and good grain-size control, making it ideal for complex stamped or drawn parts such as battery caps, bellows, musical-instrument parts, and decorative trim. It forms well but should not be specified for prolonged saltwater exposure without coating.
Typical uses include hardware (hinges, fasteners, brackets), decorative and architectural trim, low-pressure fittings and valve bodies, low-current terminals, and stamped washers/bushings. With lead limited to 0.05%, it meets low-lead environmental requirements for many general plumbing components, but it is not rated for continuous high-salinity marine service.
