SPEC STD
C18200 chromium copper, also known as CuCr1, is a precipitation-hardenable copper alloy containing 0.6–1.2% chromium supplied as rod and bar under ASTM B453 (RWMA Class 2). It combines 80–85% IACS conductivity with good strength and softening resistance, making it ideal for resistance-welding electrodes, electrical connectors, and heat sinks.

Product Overview

C18200 chromium copper, commonly designated CuCr1 (EN CW105C), is a copper alloy with 0.6–1.2% chromium, small iron and silicon each up to 0.1%, and copper as the balance (copper plus additions 99.5% minimum). It is manufactured to UNS C18200, ASTM B453, and RWMA Class 2 for rod and bar requiring high conductivity with strength after precipitation hardening.

Strengthened by solution treatment and aging, C18200 reaches tensile strength of 345–520 MPa with yield strength of 125–450 MPa and electrical conductivity of 80–85% IACS in the age-hardened and cold-worked condition. Its chromium dispersion raises the recrystallization temperature, so it resists softening under welding and molding heat. Density is 8.89 g/cm³, elastic modulus about 117 GPa, and thermal conductivity roughly 190–250 W/m·K.

C18200 is a preferred resistance-welding electrode material and is also used for electrical connectors, terminals, switches, heat sinks, and injection-mold cores. Linsy Copper supplies C18200 chromium copper rod and bar to ASTM B453, with low-MOQ custom production (typical lead time 10–60 days), in-house CNC machining and surface finishing, an MTR/MTC for every order, and optional SGS testing on request. Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about C18200 chromium copper specifications, welding use, and ordering.

C18200 (CuCr1) is a preferred RWMA Class 2 resistance-welding electrode material and is also used for electrical connectors, terminals, switches, heat sinks, and injection-mold cores. It is supplied as rod and bar to ASTM B453 where high conductivity must pair with strength and heat stability.
In the age-hardened and cold-worked condition C18200 carries 80–85% IACS — about 80% of pure copper's conductivity — while delivering 345–520 MPa tensile strength. That is why it replaces copper in welding electrodes and current-carrying parts that see heat.
C18200 is chromium copper (CuCr1, ~0.6–1.2% Cr) with no intentional zirconium, while C18150 is chromium-zirconium copper (CuCr1Zr) that adds 0.03–0.30% Zr. The zirconium in C18150 further raises softening temperature and reduces electrode sticking on coated steels, but both are RWMA Class 2 high-conductivity electrode alloys.
C18200 is solution-annealed (about 1000°C) and water-quenched to a soft, formable state at roughly 40% IACS, then age-hardened (typically 400–500°C) to develop 80–85% IACS conductivity and full strength. Material can be supplied pre-aged or solution-annealed for user-side aging after forming.
It machines moderately and is usually finish-machined after aging; brazing and welding are possible with copper-compatible filler and good ventilation because of the chromium content. Linsy provides in-house CNC machining to the electrode or connector profile required.
