C87860 lead-free eco brass is a silicon brass with 75–79% Cu and under 0.25% Pb, meeting potable-water rules. Used for valves, pump bodies, and plumbing fittings.

Product Overview

C87860 lead-free cast brass is a copper-silicon (eco brass) casting alloy produced to ASTM B584 (sand cast), ASTM B271 (centrifugal cast), and ASTM B30 (ingot). With 75–79% copper and a silicon addition instead of lead, it delivers strength close to austenitic stainless steel while remaining lead-free for potable-water service.

The lead content is held at or below 0.25% (commonly under 0.09%), so C87860 meets lead-free plumbing rules such as California AB 1953 and the US Safe Drinking Water Act. Silicon provides free-cutting behaviour and good dezincification and stress-corrosion-cracking resistance. The alloy is hot-formable and forgeable (forgeability rating ~95) and is typically supplied as cast or hot-formed, then CNC machined.

For lead-free brass components, Linsy Copper supplies copper bar and block that can be machined or finished to applicable ASTM standards, with low-MOQ custom production for non-stock geometries and in-house CNC machining, polishing, and plating. Every order ships with an MTR/MTC, and SGS composition or RoHS + REACH reports are available on request — useful when documenting lead-free compliance. Typical custom lead time is 10–60 days, with quotations returned within about one hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about C87860 lead-free eco brass specifications, lead-free compliance, and comparison with leaded grades.

C87860 is covered by ASTM B584 for sand castings, ASTM B271 for centrifugal castings, and ASTM B30 for ingot. It belongs to the copper-silicon (eco brass) family, distinct from the leaded yellow-brass casting grades.
Yes. Lead is limited to 0.25% maximum (typically well under 0.09%), so C87860 complies with lead-free plumbing rules such as California AB 1953 and the US Safe Drinking Water Act. It is used for potable-water valves, fittings, and meter cases.
C87860 is lead-free and stronger in the sand-cast condition (about 380–450 MPa tensile versus roughly 345 MPa typical for C85700). C85700 is a leaded brass better suited to marine and decorative hardware where lead-free status is not required.
Machinability is rated about 70 on the C36000 = 100 scale. It is lower than leaded free-cutting brass, but silicon gives good chip control, and the alloy is commonly CNC turned for valve bodies and fittings.
Standard stock copper bar or block ships within a few business days. Custom casting or machined geometries typically require 10–60 days depending on grade, dimensions, and processing complexity, with an MTR/MTC provided for every order.
