C87850 lead-free brass, also known as Eco Brass, is a silicon brass casting alloy that replaces lead with silicon for compliance with potable-water and RoHS rules. It keeps good machinability and corrosion resistance for valve bodies, plumbing fittings, and faucets.

Product Overview

C87850 is a lead-free silicon brass (trade name Eco Brass) developed as a regulated alternative to leaded cast brass such as C84500 and C85800. It carries 75.0–78.0% copper, 2.7–3.4% silicon, and zinc as the balance, with lead held at 0.09% maximum so it meets NSF/ANSI 372, NSF/ANSI 61, the U.S. Safe Drinking Water Act, RoHS, and REACH. Silicon acts as the chip-breaking and fluidity agent that lead used to provide, giving the alloy a machinability rating of about 70–80 relative to C36000 free-cutting brass. It is supplied as sand, permanent-mold, and continuous castings to ASTM B584, ASTM B505, and ASTM B806.

In the sand-cast condition C87850 reaches about 380–450 MPa tensile strength, 170–220 MPa yield, 15–20% elongation, and 80–95 HB hardness, with dezincification resistance from its silicon content and an attractive golden color. It solders and brazes well and is hot-formable, while cold work is limited; stress relief near 500°C is typical after fabrication. The lower pouring temperature and short freezing range reduce microporosity and dross, which helps thin-wall and pressure-tight plumbing parts.

Linsy Copper supplies C87850 lead-free brass as sand, permanent-mold, and continuous castings with low-MOQ production (typical lead time 10–60 days), in-house CNC machining and surface finishing, an MTR/MTC for every order, and optional SGS testing on request. Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Lead is capped at 0.09% maximum, satisfying NSF/ANSI 372 and the U.S. Safe Drinking Water Act lead-free definition, and it also meets NSF/ANSI 61, RoHS, and REACH. It is the standard choice where C36000/C38500 leaded brass is no longer permitted.
Silicon replaces lead as the machinability agent, so C87850 runs at about 70–80% of C36000's machinability instead of 100%, but it gains dezincification resistance and full regulatory compliance. For most plumbing and valve parts the trade is favorable.
ASTM B584 covers sand castings, ASTM B505 continuous castings, and ASTM B806 castings for general applications. Mechanical values here follow the sand-cast condition.
Yes. The 2.7–3.4% silicon content suppresses dezincification, so C87850 performs well in aggressive fresh and potable water without needing a separate DZR-grade specification.
Linsy Copper supplies C87850 as sand, permanent-mold, and continuous castings at low MOQ with a typical lead time of 10–60 days, ships an MTR/MTC with every order, and offers optional SGS testing on request.
