C85700 leaded naval brass is a higher-strength casting brass with 58–64% Cu, 0.8–1.5% Pb, and tin for marine corrosion resistance. Used for bushings, marine hardware, and valve bodies.

Product Overview

C85700 leaded naval brass is a higher-strength casting brass in the yellow-brass family, produced to ASTM B584 (sand cast), ASTM B271 (centrifugal cast), and ASTM B30 (ingot). With 58–64% copper, 32–40% zinc, and a tin addition, it reaches a typical tensile strength near 345 MPa — well above standard yellow-brass casting grades — while keeping a golden appearance.

The 0.8–1.5% lead gives a machinability rating near 80 and helps produce pressure-tight castings, but like other leaded brasses it is not suitable for potable-water contact under modern lead-free rules. The tin content improves corrosion resistance in marine and industrial atmospheres, which is why it is commonly used for ship hardware and valve bodies. It solders and brazes excellently and does not respond to heat treatment.

For cast brass components, Linsy Copper supplies copper bar and block that can be machined or finished to applicable ASTM standards, with low-MOQ custom production for non-stock geometries and in-house CNC machining, polishing, and plating. Every order ships with an MTR/MTC, and SGS composition or RoHS + REACH reports are available on request. Typical custom lead time is 10–60 days, with quotations returned within about one hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about C85700 leaded naval brass specifications, lead content, and comparison with C85400.

C85700 is covered by ASTM B584 for sand castings, ASTM B271 for centrifugal castings, and ASTM B30 for ingot. It was formerly listed as ASTM B146 Alloy 6C, a designation now discouraged.
No. It contains 0.8–1.5% lead and does not meet modern lead-free plumbing regulations. Use it for marine hardware, valve bodies, bushings, and ornamental castings — not for potable-water contact.
C85700 is the stronger grade: typical tensile strength is about 345 MPa versus roughly 207 MPa minimum for C85400, and it adds tin for marine corrosion resistance. C85400 has more lead (1.5–3.8%) and lower cost for decorative, non-structural hardware.
Machinability is rated about 80 on the C36000 = 100 scale. The lead phase promotes clean chip breakage, making it well suited to CNC turning, drilling, and threading of cast blanks.
Standard stock copper bar or block ships within a few business days. Custom casting or machined geometries typically require 10–60 days depending on grade, dimensions, and processing complexity, with an MTR/MTC provided for every order.
