C75400 Nickel Silver (CuNi15Zn20) is a wrought copper-nickel-zinc alloy with a silver-white finish, good corrosion resistance, and moderate strength for decorative, musical, optical, and precision parts. Supplied to ASTM B122 / B151.

Product Overview

C75400 Nickel Silver (also designated CuNi15Zn20 or JIS C7541) is a wrought copper-nickel-zinc alloy containing roughly 65% copper, 15% nickel, and balance zinc. The nickel content gives the material its characteristic silver-white color and solid corrosion resistance, while cold working controls strength and hardness across tempers from annealed to extra-hard.

Supplied as sheet, strip, rod, bar, and wire to ASTM B122 and B151, C75400 offers moderate tensile strength (about 425 MPa in 1/8-hard, up to 590 MPa in hard tempers) with good formability in softer conditions. It machines at roughly 20% of free-cutting brass, solders and brazes well, and is suited to blanking, drawing, spinning, and etching. Electrical conductivity stays low at about 7% IACS, so it is specified for appearance and corrosion resistance rather than conduction.

When you need C75400 in non-standard sizes or project-specific tempers, Linsy Copper supports low-MOQ custom production with typical lead times of 10-60 days depending on grade, dimensions, and processing. Our Shenzhen factory provides in-house CNC machining, laser cutting, and surface finishing such as bright polishing or silver plating, and issues an MTR/MTC for every order with optional SGS testing available on request.

Key Features

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about C75400 nickel silver composition, tempers, standards, and applications.

Both are Cu-Ni-Zn nickel silvers, but C75400 (CuNi15Zn20) carries slightly more zinc than C75200 (CuNi18Zn27) and a bit less nickel, giving a similar silver appearance with marginally different strength and formability. C75200 is the more common grade; C75400 is often chosen for specific strip and decorative specifications.
Sheet, strip, and plate are covered by ASTM B122; rod, bar, and wire by ASTM B151. International equivalents include JIS C7541 and EN CuNi15Zn20 (BZn15-20).
No. Electrical conductivity is only about 7% IACS. It is specified for its silver-white appearance, corrosion resistance, and mechanical behavior, not for conductive paths. Use pure copper or conductive copper grades where current carrying is required.
Tempers run from annealed/soft through 1/8-hard, 1/4-hard, 1/2-hard, hard, to extra-hard. Tensile strength rises from about 425 MPa (1/8-hard) to roughly 590 MPa (hard), while elongation drops from 30% to around 3%. Softer tempers suit deep forming; harder tempers suit springs and high-stress parts.
It resists atmospheric and mild marine corrosion better than brass, but it is not a dedicated seawater-grade copper-nickel like C70600 or C71500. For prolonged immersion or high-velocity seawater, those 90-10 or 70-30 Cu-Ni alloys are the safer choice. C75400 fits trim, hardware, and above-water marine parts.
