C70400 Copper Nickel 95-5

C70400 copper, commonly referred to as 95-5 copper-nickel, is a low-nickel copper-nickel alloy containing 4.8–6.2% nickel with iron and manganese additions and copper as the balance. It is manufactured to ASTM B111 (seamless condenser tubes and ferrule stock) and ASTM B466 (seamless pipe and tube) for thermal and marine service.

Produced as seamless tube and pipe, C70400 copper nickel provides dependable resistance to seawater corrosion, erosion, and biofouling, retaining its properties from cryogenic temperatures up to moderate operating heat. Its tensile strength reaches at least 260 MPa in the annealed condition and about 275 MPa in the light-drawn H55 temper. Compared with C70600 (90-10) and C71500 (70-30), C70400 carries less nickel and is selected where cost matters more than maximum corrosion margin.
