C65500 silicon bronze, also known as High Silicon Bronze "A", is a high-strength copper-silicon alloy supplied as rod, bar, and shapes under ASTM B98. It combines corrosion resistance comparable to pure copper with the strength of mild steel, making it ideal for marine hardware, fasteners, hydraulic lines, and architectural fabrications.

Product Overview

C65500 is a high-silicon bronze whose strength comes from 2.8–3.8% silicon and 0.5–1.3% manganese in a copper-rich matrix (about 95.8% Cu nominal). Silicon raises tensile strength, fatigue resistance, and corrosion resistance while keeping the alloy easy to join, and manganese improves hot workability. It is produced to ASTM B98 (rod, bar, shapes), ASTM B96 (plate), ASTM B99 (wire), and ASTM B248 (rod/bar for screws).

In the soft O60 temper C65500 reaches a minimum tensile strength of 360 MPa (52 ksi) with up to 35% elongation; in the hard H04 temper tensile strength climbs to 485–669 MPa (97 ksi) with 75–95 HRB hardness. It resists fresh water, seawater, most non-oxidizing acids, alkalis, and organic chemicals, and is non-sparking and galling-resistant. Weldability is excellent by all methods, formability is good hot and cold, and machinability is fair (use carbide tooling).

Linsy Copper supplies C65500 silicon bronze as extruded rod, bar, and custom shapes with low-MOQ orders (typical lead time 10–60 days), in-house CNC machining and surface finishing, an MTR/MTC for every order, and optional SGS testing on request. Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our products, services, and ordering process

Both are copper-silicon alloys, but C65500 (High Silicon Bronze A) has 2.8–3.8% Si and is rated for rod, bar, plate, and wire to ASTM B98/B96/B99. C65800 is a related grade with tighter silicon control and is typically supplied to ASTM B98 for higher-strength structural use. Check the spec sheet when a project names one specifically.
Yes. C65500 has excellent weldability by all common methods, and the silicon improves molten fluidity for clean joints. Soldering and brazing are also good; machinability is only fair, so use carbide tooling and lower speeds.
It resists fresh water, seawater, most non-oxidizing acids, alkalis, salts, and organic chemicals, comparable to pure copper. It is not suitable for sulfides, nitric acid, acid chromates, or oxidizing salts such as ferric chloride.
ASTM B98 covers rod, bar, and shapes; B96 plate; B99 wire; and B248 rod and bar for screws. The composition and O60/H04 properties quoted here follow ASTM B98.
Linsy Copper supplies C65500 silicon bronze at low MOQ with a typical lead time of 10–60 days, ships an MTR/MTC with every order, and offers optional SGS testing on request.
