C44400 Admiralty Brass (antimonial) is a tin- and antimony-bearing copper-zinc alloy built for condenser and heat-exchanger tubing, with antimony added to inhibit dezincification in seawater and brackish service. Supplied to ASTM B111 / B171.

Product Overview

C44400 Admiralty Brass (also called antimonial admiralty) is a wrought copper-zinc-tin alloy containing about 71% copper, balance zinc, 0.8-1.2% tin, and 0.02-0.10% antimony. It belongs to the inhibited admiralty family (C44300 uses arsenic, C44400 uses antimony, C44500 uses phosphorus); the antimony addition slows dezincification, making the alloy a long-standing choice for condenser and heat-exchanger tubing in seawater and brackish water.

Supplied primarily as tube to ASTM B111 and as plate/sheet to ASTM B171, C44400 offers typical annealed tube tensile strength around 310-365 MPa with elongation of 20-65% depending on temper, plus good bendability for finned and U-bend tubing. It has excellent cold workability for forming and bending, a machinability rating near 30% of free-cutting brass, and thermal conductivity around 110 W/m-K that supports heat-transfer duty. Electrical conductivity is about 25% IACS.

For heat-exchanger and condenser projects needing C44400 in specific tube sizes, wall thicknesses, or plate dimensions, Linsy Copper supports low-MOQ custom production with typical lead times of 10-60 days based on grade, size, and processing. Our Shenzhen factory provides in-house cutting, bending, and surface finishing, and issues an MTR/MTC for every order, with optional SGS testing available on request to document composition and dezincification resistance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about C44400 admiralty brass, the antimony inhibitor, and how it compares with C44300/C44500.

They are the same inhibited admiralty base (about 71% Cu, 1% Sn, balance Zn) but differ only in the dezincification inhibitor: C44300 uses arsenic, C44400 uses antimony, and C44500 uses phosphorus. All three target condenser and heat-exchanger tubing; selection usually follows the spec or purchaser preference.
Tube is covered by ASTM B111, and plate/sheet by ASTM B171. Related condenser standards include ASTM B359, B395, B432, and B543.
Antimony (0.02-0.10%) inhibits dezincification, the selective loss of zinc that weakens brass in seawater and acidic service. This lets C44400 hold strength and integrity far longer than uninhibited brass in condenser and heat-exchanger tubing.
Annealed tube typically delivers 310-365 MPa tensile with 20-65% elongation, and bends well for finned and U-bend tubing. Half-hard and hard tempers raise strength (up to 400 MPa tensile, 300 MPa yield) while lowering ductility, trading formability for pressure rating.
Yes. It is specifically engineered for seawater and brackish-water condenser and heat-exchanger service, with the antimony inhibitor providing dezincification resistance. For very high-velocity or polluted seawater, copper-nickel alloys (C70600/C71500) are sometimes preferred, but admiralty brass remains a cost-effective standard.
