SPEC STD
C27400 yellow brass, also known as 63/37 brass (CuZn37), is a copper-zinc alloy containing 61.0–64.0% copper supplied as sheet, strip, and plate under ASTM B36. It combines strong cold formability with good machinability, making it ideal for plumbing fittings, cold-headed fasteners, electrical connectors, and heat-exchanger tubing.

Product Overview

C27400 yellow brass, commonly referred to as 63/37 brass or CuZn37, is a copper-zinc alloy containing 61.0–64.0% copper with zinc as the balance. It is manufactured to ASTM B36 standards for sheet, strip, and plate requiring strong cold formability, good machinability, and economical composition.

Produced through rolling and cold-working, C27400 delivers tensile strength from about 365 MPa in half-hard tempers up to 650 MPa in spring tempers, with reliable ductility for stamping and drawing. Its alpha-phase structure provides good corrosion resistance in freshwater and atmospheric service, excellent solderability and brazeability, and a clean surface suitable for finishing.

C27400 is widely used in plumbing fittings and accessories, cold-headed fasteners, electrical connectors, and automotive heat-exchanger tubes where formability and cost-efficiency matter. Linsy Copper supplies C27400 yellow brass sheet and strip to ASTM B36, with low-MOQ custom production (typical lead time 10–60 days), in-house laser cutting, stamping, and surface finishing, an MTR/MTC for every order, and optional SGS testing on request. Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about C27400 yellow brass specifications, applications, and ordering.

C27400 (63/37 brass, CuZn37) is supplied as sheet, strip, and plate under ASTM B36, and as tube under ASTM B135. Its cold formability, moderate strength, and good machinability make it a practical choice for plumbing fittings, cold-headed fasteners, electrical connectors, and heat-exchanger tubing.
C27400 contains 61.0–64.0% copper versus C27000's 63.0–68.5%, so it has slightly more zinc (about 37% vs 35%). The higher zinc content lowers material cost and raises strength a little, with marginally less cold formability than C27000. Both are ASTM B36 yellow brasses; pick C27400 for economy and strength, C27000 for maximum formability.
C27400 has good cold formability and is widely used for stamping, drawing, and bending, though its higher zinc content makes it a step less formable than C27000. For demanding deep-drawn parts, anneal between operations and control zinc-loss at elevated temperature.
C27400 solders and brazes excellently and is compatible with spot and butt welding; gas-shielded arc welding is fair, while coated-metal-arc welding is not recommended because of zinc vaporization. Apply low-temperature stress relief after joining to limit distortion.
C27400 is supplied as sheet and strip per ASTM B36 (typically 0.3–8.0 mm thick) and as tube and rod on request. Custom thicknesses, tempers, and widths are available with minimum order quantities.
