Product Overview

C23000 brass is a high-copper brass alloy containing approximately 85% copper and 15% zinc, providing an excellent balance of corrosion resistance, strength, and cold working performance. It is manufactured to ASTM B36, ASTM B134, and related standards for applications requiring long service life and attractive appearance.

Produced through rolling, drawing, and annealing processes, C23000 brass offers excellent ductility, reliable fabrication performance, and superior resistance to atmospheric corrosion. Its distinctive reddish-gold color makes it particularly suitable for architectural and decorative applications.

C23000 brass is extensively used in roofing systems, decorative hardware, plumbing fittings, electrical components, and industrial stamped parts where durability and appearance are essential. It is widely applied across construction, HVAC, transportation, electronics, and general manufacturing industries.

Frequently Asked Questions About C23000 Red Brass

Practical engineering answers on C23000 (85/15 red brass): composition, dezincification resistance, potable-water use, standards and sourcing.

C23000, also called red brass, architectural brass or Nordic Brass, is an 85/15 brass with 84.0-86.0% Cu and Zn balance (about 15%), Pb and Fe each at or below 0.05%. It is a low-lead wrought brass - unlike leaded forging brasses such as C37700, its lead stays within the 0.25% potable-water limit, so it is suitable for drinking-water contact.
Annealed C23000 has tensile strength about 200-250 MPa; half-hard (H02) 280-350 MPa; hard (H04) 350-420 MPa. Elongation is 40-55% annealed. Electrical conductivity is roughly 28% IACS (some sources list up to 37% IACS in soft condition). It resists dezincification and season cracking better than higher-zinc brasses.
C23000 combines the best dezincification resistance and corrosion resistance of the high-copper brasses with moderate strength, which is why it is the standard choice for commercial water pipe, service lines, fittings and fire-hose couplings. It is specified for underground potable-water service where long-term corrosion resistance matters most.
C23000 is covered by ASTM B36 (sheet/strip/plate), B134 (wire), B135 (seamless tube), B43 (pipe) and B111 (condenser/heat-exchanger tube). The EN equivalent is CuZn15 (CW502L). Tempers span annealed (O60) through H02/H04; it is also made as architectural Nordic Brass sheet for facades and trim.
Yes. Linsy Copper supplies C23000 sheet, strip, tube, pipe and bar to ASTM B36/B43/B111/B135 with mill test reports (MTR/MTC) on every order and SGS on request. As a low-lead grade it suits potable-water projects; typical lead times are 10-60 days, MOQs are low, and quotes are returned within 24 hours under RoHS/REACH compliance.
